Amrit Darshan You are Immortal Existence

The Avadhoot Gita of Dattatreya
Chapter three
Section one – Immortal Am I
Section two – Free Am I
Section three – Why do you weep?

O dear heart,
No weakness, sorrow or death
Can ever touch you.
You are not body
You are not bodyless.
Age, mind and senses
Are not you.
Desire, greed and attachment
Are not you.
For whom do you weep?
You are the knowledge of immortality
Bliss-existence like the sky,
Pure existence like the sky.
Avadhoot Gita, Chapter III

In this recording, Vistar sings the Sanskrit verses of the Avadhoot Gita in
her original musical compositions. Shai Dayan collaborates with her in song,
presenting his unique musical style and arrangements. They are inspired by
the  inherent properties of the ancient Sanskrit mantras, which are
conducive to meditation and the unfoldment of peace.

The words of Lord Dattatreya-the Avadhoot, the wandering mystic-have been
spoken and sung  for millennia. They resonate with  profound significance,
posing eternal questions and expressing the longings of a seeker, a human
being:
Who am I ?
Who experiences joy and suffering?
For whom do I weep?

The answer is given in the  refrain:
"I am the knowledge of immortality,
Bliss-existence like the sky,
Pure existence like the sky."

Vistar has been living in the Indian Himalayas for thirty years as a
student, teacher, meditator and practitioner  of Advaita Vedanta philosophy,
or non-dualism. Reading and contemplating Avadhoot Gita, an Advaita-Vedanta text, has given a profound expression to her own journey. This, in turn, inspired her to compose, giving voice and musical representation to that
inspiration. Included with this CD is a booklet with her poetic English
translation of Chapter 3.

This musical production reflects a multi-faceted range of elements: a
meditative vision of immortality and oneness, a love and appreciation for
Indian classical music, and a myriad of life experiences in the East and the
West.

Joining Vistar is Shai Dayan, who has infused the recording with his
distinctive  musical sensibilities. Having studied philosophy and meditation
in India for five years, and being a long-time meditator and improvisational artist, he offers his own musical arrangement  and interpretation to the knowledge conveyed by the Avadhoot GIta.

Happy listening!
